Landscape Design Process

The design process we have built over the last 24 years actually saves time.

Isn’t it empowering when someone truly listens to you and intently seeks to understand what matters to you, or what’s important without some specific agenda or pre-planned solution?

Because we have worked with so many clients who have had different home styles and sizes, different budgets and expected outcomes, in different locations across the Intermountain West, on New Construction or Remodels, we are confident that we can design what you want. We are NOT going to force our ideas upon you because we are only competent in specific areas of design and that’s all we know. The sky is the limit!

Zerr Design prioritizes listening. We want to understand what you are looking for.  We have learned that sometimes YOU don’t know exactly what you want and so our job is to work with all stakeholders to create a unified understanding of the desired outcomes for your specific project.

We will collaborate, consider different options, present ideas you may not have considered, and try and get as much clarity before starting the Landscape Design. Instead of ‘thinking’ we know what you want, and then charging you for a Landscape Design that doesn’t really excite you or capture your vision, we invest the time up front to really ‘know’ what you want, and then design accordingly.

Due to our extensive knowledge and experience building and constructing some of the most distinctive landscapes in Utah, we know how to design things that actually work, that can be built, that won’t leave your landscape contractor questioning what the designer was thinking or how the plan is to be implemented.

The process we have built over the last 24 years actually saves lots of time. It’s a “slow is fast” approach to getting the Landscape, Hardscape, Waterscape and other design requirements right.

Our Design Process:

  1. Fill out the questionnaire so we have immediate details on you and your project
  2. Understand our Design Process and Fee Structure and feel comfortable that Zerr Design is a good match for you- that we have the experience and the competency you are seeking
  3. One of our Designers will reach out to you to schedule a 15 minute phone pre-consult to better understand your project and your requirements
  4. Receive and review a personalized Quote and Agreement for Landscape Design Work
  5. Schedule a Site Visit with a Designer for ALL stakeholders involved in the Landscape Design
  6. Pay a 50% Design Deposit prior to Site Visit
  7. Meet on site with Designer to start the process
  8. Interact with Designer as needed during the design phase to ensure that we are getting it right
  9. Review 2D Landscape Concept Plan (will include hardscape, softscape, water elements including pools, fountains, hot tubs, structures, etc) with Designer and Red Line any changes
  10. Review of Final Landscape Plan
